Aspen Trunks on Kebler Pass between Crested Butte and Aspen Colorado. A perfect black and white subject which like always, was my intent when I pressed the shutter. The vertical 1:2 crop is deliberate and intended to enhance the strong verticals of the tightly grouped aspen trunks.
On a fall color shooting safari in 2008 I found this very strong vertical image on Kebler Pass west of Crested Butte. Though I saw this as BW the moment I took it the color channels can be manipulated to create better tonalities, the reason for the original file being color. I love the very strong graphics created by the vertical, white and closely packed trunks. One of my clients purchased a print nearly 8' tall! It went on a wall next to a huge black full grand piano. Stunning!
