Up in the end of the Castle Creek Valley south of Aspen. Mace Peak and Star Mountain caught at the height of the fall color change on a perfect morning. I got there way to early and was lucky. As I waited I found another image, totally different, and equally amazing to me.
A brilliant fall morning late September of 2016. This spot is just beyond the Ashcroft ghost town at the end of Castle Creek. Greg Mace Peak 12,528' at right, is named after the late 1940's founder of the Toklat Wilderness Lodge. Center left is Star Peak 13,521'. Crested Butte is a short but crazy 4WD road over Pearl Pass back in there somewhere. I actually got to this spot too early, the whole left side was in heavy shadow. Just waited for the light to change and appreciated the beauty of the day. No cell service up there and glad there still isn't!
