Along Snowmass Creek near the base of the old Campground side of the Snowmass Ski area. Her an early September snow presses down on trees and shrubs with its wet heaviness. The occasional crackling sound in the woods tells of a tree or branch giving in to the weight.
Snowfall is not uncommon by the time September comes in the Colorado Rockies. These mountains are high in altitude. Colorado has more landmass above 10.000' than any other place in the world including Tibet in the Himalaya. Along Snowmass Creek I found this scene of the stream carrying away melting snow and the trees bowing under that snow before it melted. Branches lay here and there on the ground and a crackling noise could be heard occasionally in the wood. About a foot of heavy snow had fallen up higher, while down at this 8300' elevation just a few inches bowed the trees over. The colorful rocks in the streambed attracted my attention along with the rest of this scene as they glowed through the rushing stream.
A very textural image this one. Canvas and make it large as there are many small details to look at in this scene. The panorama stitching technique I often use and used here will allow full detail at larger sizes. Try it!
